Development of the western exit of the Mathis road in Nice
26 May 2021 Off By Marie-Christine MICHELCovered and open trenches instead of a tunnel in the framework of the development of the western exit of the Mathis road in Nice.
This project, which dates back more than 12 years, is being carried out with the aim of improving traffic flow by connecting the Voie Mathis (currently 70,000 vehicles per day on this road) to the A8 freeway.
The public works contract has been awarded to the companies Razel-Bec and Vinci Construction by the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis and phase 1 has been launched for an estimated €95 million. The work involves a 1,200-meter-long structure, of which approximately 600 to 800 meters are underground. The project includes, on the underground part, an alternation of open and covered trenches from the square of the Saint Augustin station.
Funding is provided by the Nice Côte d’Azur metropolitan area, the “Perben” government (€8.7 million), CPER PACA (€6 million); a request for funding has been made to the CD06. Commissioning is scheduled for 2025.
Phase 2 of the extension of the structure in open or covered trench, up to the A8 freeway, is the subject of feasibility studies by ESCOTA at the request of the Minister for Ecological Transition.
