On February 11, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson gave the green light to proceed with the HS2 high-speed project.
He intends to control costs and improve management of the project by appointing a dedicated minister which could cost up to 118 billion euros.
The first phase between London and Birmingham (225 km) represents an investment of between 42 and 54 billion euros; it could be operational in 2026. The second phase to Leeds and Manchester (305 km) could be operational by 2033.
