Lisbon’s metropolitan network is to put two additional metro stations on the green line into operation and funding is underway to extend the red line. The two stations on the Lisbon metro’s green line should be in operation by early 2024: Estrela and Santos.
The stations of the Lisbon metro's green line
Lisbon’s metro network should be extended to connect the Rato stations on the yellow line to Caís do Sodré on the green line. Funding is not yet secured for the entire extension. However, the Lisbon Metropolitan Network is already planning to start work on two stations: Estrela and Santos. The new Lisbon metro line will cost 210 million euros. About 127 million is co-financed by the Environmental Fund and 83 million by the Cohesion Fund. The funding is part of the programme for sustainability and resource efficiency.
Extension of the red line of the Lisbon metro
The Lisbon Metropolitan Network and the mission structure “Recuperar Portugal” have signed financing contracts for the implementation of investments for the red line of the Lisbon metro. These include the extension of the San Sebastião line to Alcântara station and the construction of the Odivelas/Loures light rail system. The completion of the Red Line investments is planned for 31 December 2025 at the latest.
