Presentations from the conference ‘Pressurized Hydraulic Galleries and Shafts’ – June 13, 2024
24 September 2024 Off By Anne BRISSAUDThe AFTES Technical Conference on the theme ‘Pressurized Hydraulic Galleries and Shafts’ took place in Paris on June 13, 2024, in partnership with the CFMR.
The AFTES Technical Committee is preparing to launch a working group with the aim of proposing recommendations for the design and maintenance of pressurized hydraulic galleries and shafts. For these specific structures, often found in energy production facilities (hydroelectric power plants, nuclear power plants), the interaction between the structure and its environment is significant, and a failure of the structure can have major consequences. The lining and the surrounding rock are subjected to particular hydro-mechanical stresses not typically encountered in other underground structures (hydraulic impact, risk of hydrofracture, tensile stress on linings, etc.).
This conference was an opportunity to share knowledge on these structures through presentations addressing the challenges, design principles, calculation rules, experience feedback, and accidentology, illustrated with examples of recent projects.
